Did You Think I Wouldn't Mention It?!

My beloved Queens Park Rangers are unbeaten so far in 2013. I might mention that they have actually played some games as well. And I feel bound to refer to a recent match at Stamford Bridge.

Having sat through the Sunday game at home to Liverpool, where we were 0-3 down after 28 minutes, and utterly dire the rest of the time, I decided there was no way I was prepared to spend 60 squid to sit in the rain and watch us be thumped by the auld enemy.

this is a picture of Shaun Wright-Phillips. Throughout the season so far there has been a consensus that he should not be picked for the first team because he brings nothing to it. He only made it onto the Stamford Bridge pitch because Hoillett was injured early on. In this picture, SWP is scoring a goal.

Here is a better view of SWP's first goal for QPR. It turned out, in fact, to be the only goal of the game. This made his team-mates quite happy.

I must admit that when I awoke the next morning, I was pretty sure I had dreamt the whole thing. I'd been at home, happily watching David Attenborough's new programme about Africa. My mind and heart were full of  drongoes and meerkats. I was trying to drown out the inevitable massacre. And then the e-mails began arriving, and the texts, and the Facebook comments. What an incredible high, and so soon after the utter despair of the performance vs Liverpool. It is nights like this that keep us hooked. Come on you R's!

Perils of Facebook

It's been a while, I know. My three regular readers have either given up, e-mailed me to check I still have all my fingers, or followed me to Facebook. What can I say? I was seduced by the chance to see pictures of the grown-up children of people I had not seen since Junior (Middle) School. Am I sated? Not quite, I think. Shots of weddings of friends of my sister still have a bit of a hold on me, although I no longer play any word games with annoying strangers who score so many points you'd like to think they are cheating but really you are just ticked off that you aren't getting any better. Anyway, just wanted to pop in and wish you all a happy secular new year!

A Facebook Haggadah

Passover will soon be here. For Jews who observe this festival, we get together for a big meal with family, friends and strangers; we wait forever until the actual meal begins, and we stay up quite late drinking a minimum of 4 cups of wine (or juice). The purpose is to tell the story of the Exodus from Egypt, so that we remember that we were slaves, and now are free. This is to encourage us to work for freedom in the world today for everyone. It is considered a good deed to be creative with ways of telling the story, and a kind friend on facebook just shared this with me. I enjoyed it greatly, and hope you do too.

Whatever it is that you celebrate at this time of the year, when spring is finally springing; or the other side of the world is doing what it does, may it be a time of reflection and peace.

news is that the owners of the original scrabble game (hasbro and mattel) are complaining about copyright infringement by facebook in the hosting of one of its top ten applications - scrabulous.

i have to say that the app has got me into playing scrabble when i never liked it before, and keeps me in touch with a number of friends. surely there is an amicable solution out there? hmmmmm ... lots of people should be home from school by now - i'd better go check and see if it is my turn again yet!
