Frying Tonight!

It is nearly midnight here in Modena, halfway through the month of May. The current temperature is 29 C/85 F. In the middle of the night. In May.

Sigh. Soon it will be Lag B'Omer, the 33rd day of the counting of the Omer that takes us from Pesach to Shavuot, from redemption to revelation. L & I discussed what we might do to celebrate this day. It is customary to make bonfires, and L suggested a barbecue. To which I replied that the barbecue has already begun, pointing to the redness of my body in this heat.

I am frying tonight. Hence the above clip from my favourite Carry On film (Screaming). Stay frosty y'all!

The Queen of Procrastination

These are stressful days. The heat in Modena seems more oppressive than ever before, and relentless. They say it may break tomorrow. We certainly need a break of some kind.

Meanwhile, the new year is just a couple of weeks away, and there is so much yet to prepare. I talk about the heat having boiled my brain, and escape into genealogy explorations. But I have paperwork to complete. Numbers and words await my collection and arrangement. People await my attention and support. My dear ones await my cheshbon nefesh. It's time to face the things I fear instead of hiding.

I'm sure I say this every year, and each time I intend to do better. Will this be the year that I fulfil that promise?

It's A Bit Hot Just Now

It's a bit hot round our way at the moment. We love our ancient palazzo, but in the summer on the top floor of the building, the lack of mosquito nets on the windows and air-conditioners anywhere are putting a damper on our joy for this season of gelato and European football. It's all too much for Sara the Cat, who has confiscated the telecomando to protect us from any emanations from the tv.
