RIP Walter Mondale

Today we heard the news that Walter Mondale has died in Minneapolis at the age of 93.

I have posted an image of this poster to recall that my first ever vote as an adult was in 1984, and I voted Mondale/Ferraro. I took that election very seriously, listening to the views of all the candidates on all the issues that were important to me. I chose these candidates, and they suffered one of the greatest losses in the history of Presidential elections. I remember seeing my father's tears after McGovern lost in 1972, but McGovern got 17 electoral votes and Mondale got 13. I think Alf Landon got 8 versus FDR in 1936, but can't find anything worse than that.

The poster stayed on my bedroom wall at university for the rest of the year. Hey, I am a QPR fan - losing doesn't mean I stop loving you!

My thanks for your service, Vice-President Mondale, and my condolences to all who loved you. May you rest in peace.

Piglet Retrospective II

Today is an auspicious day. In Washington DC leaders are being sworn in, and we can only hope that they will be able to begin the healing process so dearly needed. The last time Piglet was in DC, he demonstrated his desire to be closer to the White House with this selfie, so it seems appropriate to choose it for today's offering.

Wishing everyone safety and good health, and wishing President Biden and Vice-President Harris strength and courage for the work that lies ahead.

Gotcha!

O Obama! It hurts, y'know. Look at him in this pic - he's laughing in our faces. Those of us who put our trust in you cannot understand how general opinion after the first debate is clear that Romney "won". Since there seem to be myriad citizens of our country that cannot see how utterly bonkers he is, we need you to be strong.

It breaks my heart that people will make such an important decision as the choosing of a President based on surface impressions, rather than listening to what is being said and figuring out what is true and what is a lie, what is factual and what is spin. Your guys gotta get your into shape here, c'mon!
