Don't Cry For Me Charlie Austin!

Derby fans booed QPR star Charlie Austin tonight when he was substituted, perhaps because he celebrated the R's equaliser by miming crocodile tears in recollection of Rangers' iconic play-off victory back in 2014. Once again they landed a killer blow in the final minute to claim victory when Andre Gray blasted the ball into the net to make it 2-1 and take 3rd place in the division on goal difference over Coventry City.

Clearly a Chanukah miracle. COYRS!

Where's the Footie?!

If this page has seemed dominated by the ravaj's professional hat/yarmulke, it's probably because this is quite a busy time for the ravs and their co-religionists. Also, about a week ago, the ravaj was present at Craven Cottage for her beloved QPR's utter humiliation. Despite taunting by the opposition (as seen above), the away support relied solely on vocal responses. However, the shame went deep, and all of us have been regrouping during the international break. Normal service will soon be resumed!

Reality Bites

It didn't take long for a positive attitude about QPR's chances in the Premier League to shatter in the face of a 0-4 defeat at home to Bolton Wanderers yesterday. There was the first-minute goal that was disallowed:
Then there was Bolton's second goal, which we kindly scored for them:
Not to mention the rush of blood to Clint Hill's head that got him sent off about ten seconds before the end of the match:
But the resilience of the human spirit is amazing, and QPR friends and fans are already trying to find silver linings and looking forward to next week's game up at Everton. And isn't it nice to see a Premier League shirt without a stupid sponsor's name splashed all over the front?!

Bring on the Toffees!

Premier League Here We Come

Ok so those who own and rule my beloved football team Queens Park Rangers have shown their disdain for us - the long-term hardcore fans. They have not invested they way they should have this summer, and they have priced the regular fan out of the stadium. They are still sticking with the ugly club badge that looks like a pair of fallopian tubes. Nevertheless, there is always something about the first day of the new season, some hope and a bit of anticipation. It's up to the players this afternoon, and I cannot help but root for them. Nu - good luck my QPR heroes, this afternoon against Bolton Wanderers and all season long.

Championes, Championes, Ole Ole Ole

So tired from the release of tension and emotion that it is hard to process the fact that it is all over. The Football Association allowed my beloved QPR to claim their rightfully-won Championship trophy. It is the old Football League trophy, and it is beautiful in its blue and white ribbons. Now for a summer of speculation - who shall stay and who shall go? Now for a summer of anticipation - how will we do against the Arsenals and the Manchester teams? Now for a summer of exposure - the Americans who watch the EPL on Fox will finally learn about the Superhoops! Three cheers and it's time to try and sleep.

Ole Ole Ole Ole!

At least until the Football Association decides its punishment for something that happened a couple of years ago, my beloved QPR has won the Championship of the Football League, and should be better known by you all next year when we face the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United. So we are almost happy.

Two Months and Still Up There

True Queens Park Rangers fans are very confused at the moment. Our side is top of the league still after 10 matches, amazing goal difference, unbeaten, and winning awards. Jamie Mackie (above), who was signed from a relegated team, makes his first start for the Scottish national side in the European Championships this week. Newspapers are referring to us. And Chris Hollins (last year's winner of Strictly Come Dancing, as well as the son of an ex-player) presented his dancing commentary for this year from the pitch at Loftus Road. We are not used to this. And, rather than enjoy it, all we can do is say "Sssssssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" and try not to jinx it.

When does it get to be fun?

The Dream Continues

An Association Football game is played in two halves of 45 minutes each, with a fifteen-minute interval between the halves. The referee may add on time at the end of each half to make up for that lost when injuries are treated, time is wasted, or other reasons according to the rulebook.

Today, Queens Park Rangers, currently top of the league and unbeaten after the first three games of the season, went up to Pride Park to play Derby County. At the end of the ninety minutes, QPR were down 0-2, and by all accounts deservedly so. They managed to score a consolation goal in the 91st minute. In the 94th minute, Jamie Mackie (above) equalised and the match ended almost immediately. As they said on BBC Radio London - Rangers were rubbish for 91 minutes and world-beaters for 3 minutes.

It is a bloody good feeling actually ... and we are still unbeaten in the league. UUUUU RRRRR's!

what a load of rubbish!

after losing miserably at watford this afternoon, qpr are slipping speedily down the league table. the grauniad nicknames us "rich man's plaything", and the farce that is management, i.e., ol' flabbio sitting in the directors' box and sending down team changes via notes to the dugout, has led to some poor portugese being appointed the new coach. maybe he will be the new 'special one', but so far briatore has not got much form re good choices. factor in bernie ecclestone's upcoming divorce, and the plaything of these rich men - the team that we love - may be cast aside in favour of more pressing financial obligations. o tempora, o mores, o queens park rangers :-(

what the papers say - before the match

"A measure of the excitement engendered by the investment of Ecclestone, Briatore and Mittal is that long-suffering QPR fans are already referring to new signing Akos Buzsaky (the Hungarian international) as 'the new Stan Bowles'. "Excitement is the key word after the uncertainty of years of administration and lack of money," acknowledges Gareth Ainsworth, the much-travelled midfielder now in his fifth season at Loftus Road"
the telegraph

"Avram Grant, the Chelsea first-team coach, is well placed to tell Luigi De Canio, his opposite number at QPR, how to deal with a billionaire backer. The combined fortunes of Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone and Lakshmi Mittal, the Coca-Cola Championship club’s owners, far outweigh that of Abramovich, giving QPR a competitive advantage over their Championship rivals that could result in the return of this West London derby as a regular fixture."
the times

"De Canio insisted that they would be spending their money sensibly. "These are successful and rich men because they've always handled their finances well," he said. "Just because we have the potential to spend a lot of money doesn't mean that we will necessarily do that. We're following a carefully planned project in which we must get the balance right between investment, footballing success and technical results."
the independent

"Rangers used to be as unassuming as Chelsea were flash. In the years since Simon Barker equalised John Spencer's goal to earn Ray Wilkins' side a point on their last visit to Stamford Bridge, the drama which has enveloped this pocket of Shepherds Bush would have been considered too outlandish for a failing soap opera."
the grauniad

"But enough vulgar triumphalism (there's time for that when we win the Champions League). Instead, a note of caution: everything we have ever known is about to change. Should we be careful what we wish for?"
our own benjie goodhart in the grauniad

"But (Ray) Wilkins cannot see the FA Cup holders being dumped out, adding: "QPR go into the tie in good form with four wins from their last six but all 11 of their players will have to be at their very best and five or six of the Chelsea boys will need to be below par if they are to get anything."
daily mail

""I remember getting promoted at Sheffield Wednesday in 2004 and still realising administration was hanging over us, with none of us knowing whether we'd be paid the next week and that we might not be getting our bonuses. "We've come full circle since then. We've got Chelsea in the FA Cup and suddenly it's potentially two of the biggest clubs in the world playing each other. It's amazing."
daily mirror

"It's WestEnders
IF the scriptwriters of Footballers Wives ever submitted QPR’s recent history for screening, the plot would be rejected as being too far-fetched. A club on the verge of bankruptcy rescued by a couple of Formula One magnates and Britain’s richest man. Then there were guns in the boardroom, a player tragically killed in a car crash, another stabbed to death, mass brawls with the Chinese national team and now a dream FA Cup clash with their superstar neighbours Chelsea."
the sun

and bbc sport on why they are NOT covering our match live:

"The other tie a number of people have mentioned is Chelsea v QPR. This will be a full-blooded local derby, but we normally prefer it if the lower-ranked club is at home, where they tend to have a better chance. Should Rangers hold Chelsea to a draw, Loftus Road would be a leading contender to stage a live replay. "

qpr 2-1 colchester

and i was there! in my camera, and thus not available until i get back home, are some pics from a lovely day at loftus road. i got all dorky and took pictures of myself with players. luckily i could only recognise about 4 of them since there are so many new faces these days. never mind - just wanted to share with you the joy of being there and the joy of being there when they win and, well, the joy!

come on uuuuu rrrrr's!

the richest club in the world?

that is what today's sun say about my sad darling queens park rangers. it says so right here. lakshmi mittal, the official holder of fifth place in the world's richest person championship, has become a shareholder at qpr.

this is all utterly surreal. in august, we were this close to going out of business. today, mr chelski and his minions are pocket change next to our newest investor. of course, the great worry for us as fans is - what will happen to the soul of our club? it's all very well having pots of money, but what is going to change, and do we want it to?

watch this space :-)

flying pigs and crashing hopes

rowly scores the goal

bad news out of the way first: tomorrow i have to run the gauntlet of all the red sox fans at school. they will jeer me because they are red sox and the yankees lost to cleveland last night and are out of the playoffs. i will stand tall. as tall as a short woman of short russian peasant origin can stand :-)

however ... pigs fly past my windows as i record the joyous news that on 8th october, the anniversary of my youngest sister's birth, queens park rangers finally won a game this season, beating norwich at home 1-0 courtesy of a penalty slotted home by martin rowlands. hurrah. no longer are they the only team without a win in the whole football league! and - supermodel naomi campbell was spotted in the directors' box wearing a qpr scarf and dancing to the pigbag song. the entire occasion was utterly surreal.

in the end, the r's are my true love. and so i rejoice, then turn back to my as-yet-unfinished homework.

qpr 2-1 phlegm

sahar dons the hoops

it was only a pre-season friendly, and lee cook wasn't fit enough to scare us on his return to loftus road, but still we beat a premiership club and ben sahar scored both of the goals! the season starts for real next weekend but fear not, pessimism still rules, for one new signing has already been stretchered off with a suspected broken leg, and our esteemed chairman continues to spout porkies.

o what the heck i don't care it was still a win and it makes me happy :-)

kieron st amie

i seem to have received quite a few hits regarding the qpr scorer vs celtic yesterday. i think and hope that this pic from the offish is of mr st amie, possibly even on the way to scoring his goal!

gotta get back to class now ...

we're back!

qpr 1 - 5 celtic

the first pre-season friendly for qpr saw us thrashed by the mighty bhoys from glasgow. there are no reports yet on the qpr list, so all i have to go on is the website which is shite as usual. i see that jake cole saved a penalty, so yah boo sucks to everyone saying he is no more than a reserve. he is all we have right now, folks! our goal was scored by another delightfully named player kieron st amie. but where was lee cook? probably packing his bags for fulham. ray jones was missing. stefan bloody moore started. right now i am listening to the sunday sport show on bbc london and qpr fans are calling and texting their disappointment and anticipation of relegation. hmmmmm ... it's only july, and we have already achieved the nadir of nay-saying :-(

ps apparently the r's player pictured here is chris barker

one last shot

ok, ok, two last shots ... from the lap of honour after the stoke game look at rowlie with the baby ahhhhh.

also, an almost iconic shot of paul furlong leaving the pitch at loftus road for the very last time:

nick de marco took these photos and his site is here.

the end of the season

and so it goes. qpr 1-1 stoke city. stoke get a late equaliser, but their playoff hopes are doomed. rowly scores for us, and the players who have been axed get a chance to say goodbye: furs, birch & paul jones. i have nothing else to say about the match because when i went to my computer at 10 am to start following it, i saw the final scores for matches that had begun 2 hours earlier! the good news was that the chels*** match was still to come, and i did enjoy their failure to win, thus handing the premiership title to united :-) meanwhile, qpr are safe for another year, we may have found a decent manager, we have a few decent players - roll on august!

nu - personal interest in the football matches to come not existing, it is time to turn the full strength of my fandom to my poor yankees. i don't get quite the same thrill as from a qpr goal, but it'll do :-)

qpr 1 - 0 cardiff city!

there are many ways of seeing things. this is one view of dexter's goal that won the game against cardiff city and made sure qpr were safe from relegation.

SAFE FROM RELEGATION! HURRAH!!

and i was there. in the first half, i sat in j block, about where piglet sat when he was photographed at qpr a few years ago. there was, however, little atmosphere there. mostly dads and their little ones. i texted noam to see if there was any space in p block and agreed to change at halftime. by that point, we were winning. however, when i arrived at the new spot, mark (the science editor from the times) told me that since i had changed my seat, if we ended up losing, it would all be my fault. (the SCIENCE guy). o the anxiety. o the tension. but i sang my heart out for the boys. when the final whistle went, first i turned to mark and just pointed at him with frabjous glee. next i turned to noam, but she was refusing to celebrate until she had heard the scores for the other teams. choruses of 'the r's are staying up!', and players coming to our corner and applauding us. gazza hopped onto the pitch in a suit with his crutches and waved a stick at us. finally, marcus bignot, our captain and my favourite player, came over to lead the cheers, and even took the announcer's mike to sing a cheer. much joy. wonderful afternoon, and with the late evenings already in evidence, a sunlit walk to the buses and ride home, carried swiftly by the happiness and relief the win had given me.

this is the view that i had of the goal from the loft - a corner from the south africa road side taken short, the ball passed back to the corner-taker, and crossed into the box for blackstock to send a powerful header into the goal:

qpr 3 - 2 looton town

what a terrible game, and yet how exciting! when i got home, my long-suffering (40 years of qpr fans in the family and could care less about football) mother said, 'so you beat the bottom team.' but, yeah. b-b-b-but we won!

ok, the first half was pretty dire except for dexter's cleanly-taken goal to put us in the lead. just booting it up in the air for nygaard to try and nod on. then ainsworth went off after a clash during a header (rumour is that he broke his leg, poor chap) and o how we missed him. he may not be so fast any more, but his energy and his competitive nature and his niggling of the opposition were sorely absent. smith came on, but did not fill that space.

just before half-time, looton scored a soft goal.

the linesman down our end was useless. he kept checking with the ref before making a decision. and then he missed a blatant foul against smith not ten feet away from him and parallel - the defender had his arm across smith's neck and was pushing back so hard i thought his head was going to come off. while we were all screaming about that, play went straight down the other end and nygaard made his contribution to the score, handling for a penalty. 1 - 2.

everyone started losing their tempers. the ref made a series of questionable decisions, all against us. we had a penalty turned down. our old boy richard langley came on for looton. was he booed! we used to love him. my sister still does. i wonder what it feels like to have 10k people all screaming at you what a wanker you are.

and then, and then ... furlong is tripped in the box again and we finally get our penalty. about 5 minutes to go. langers starts mouthing off at everyone, and tries some gamesmanship to put dexter off. the woman on my right covers her face with her hands. dex waits for the ref to sort things out. he steps up to take the penalty. i cannot see where it goes because all around me are standing and screaming. GOOOOOAL! a strange man next to me is hugging me and someone is slapping me on the back. we have equalised. i am screaming. we are singing the pigbag song with glee (da da da da - hoops! - da da da). we sing for blackstock. 'langley, langley, what's the score?' we tell him to fcuk off. the noise is now non-stop. 'stand up, if you love rangers!' 'rangers' reject!' (for langers), is that the dambusters theme? something like it. the ball is down the other end and people are panicking. 'come on, get yer boot into it!' there are to be 3 minutes injury time. the drum in the r block is beating. the ellerslie road guys start the chant, 'sing your hearts out, sing your hearts out, sing your hearts out for the lads!' we are attacking again, and there is furs in the middle of the penalty area, and i am left short again as all around me rise, and pandemonium. furs has scored! we lead 3- 2 with only seconds left! the guy next to me nearly tips me over the seats in front as we dance for joy. i hold onto his jacket, as he goes into a group hug with fans to his left. we are punching the air and singing 'there's only one furlong.' i throw my head back with joy and see my outstretched hands silhouetted against the sky and i scream with the others.

after this, we all keep whistling for the ref to blow up. right at the end looton have a free kick at the right-hand corner of the penalty box. we are holding our breath, it is ok, and then the ref calls full-time and we are in ecstasy. i cannot remember anything more thrilling for years. 'the r's are staying up!' 'looton town are going down!' our subs rush onto the field to begin celebrating, and the rush for the pubs begins.

we are almost safe from relegation. almost safe. the players looked drained, but still came over to thank us. biggie stayed until last, pumping his fists to wind up the crowd. we love him. for a moment, i am happy.
